Bridge work along U.S. 20 near Picabo begins today (Aug. 1)

SHOSHONE – Three bridges and a culvert crossing along U.S. 20 in southern Blaine County will receive maintenance work and surface improvements over the coming weeks. The work is expected to increase life expectancy of the structures.

Work begins today (Monday, Aug. 1) at three bridge crossings east of the Idaho 75 (Timmerman) junction at Grove Creek (milepost 184), and at Silver Creek at two locations (mileposts 187 and 191). Work includes removing about three inches of existing driving surface and replacing it with a silica-fume concrete sealed with waterproofing.

Each direction of the approaching roadway at each location will also be removed and paved to match the new surface height.

Work to clean and install a concrete floor at the Dry Creek crossing near Carey (milepost 195) will be completed near the conclusion of the project in mid-August. The work will help protect the corrugated metal culvert pipes from corrosion and sediment.

The roadway will be reduced to one lane through each construction zone with temporary signals controlling the flow of traffic. Drivers should expect short delays of up to five minutes. A 35-mph speed limit will be in effect at each location and a 12-foot width restriction will be enforced.

All work is expected to be complete by the end of August.

L & J Construction Group, of Ennis, Montana, is the contractor for the $305,000 project.
