Public meeting Wednesday (Aug. 24) in Hazelton will offer information on I-84 reconstruction project

SHOSHONE – The public is invited to review and comment on the proposed reconstruction of Interstate 84 in eastern Jerome County on Wednesday (Aug. 24) in Hazelton.

The Idaho Transportation Department is hosting a public open house to share information on the project to rehabilitate about 14 miles of I-84, including three interchanges.

The meeting will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 24 at Valley High School, 822 Valley Road near Hazelton. The project, which will be built in phases, will restore roadway smoothness and improve safety for this segment of I-84.

The project consists of rehabilitating the interstate from the Idaho 50/Hansen Interchange (milepost 181.27) to the Idaho 25/Ridgeway Road Interchange (milepost 194.16).

Part of the project proposal would require the temporary closure of the entrance and exit ramps at the Valley Road Interchange (Exit 188) and the Ridgeway Road Interchange (Exit 194). The temporary closures will take place during separate phases of work for reconfiguration and reconstruction of the ramps.

The public meeting will include informational displays that outline the design schedule, roadway specifics, temporary ramp closures and detour routes. Members of the project team will be available to discuss project details and answer questions.

The transportation department is collecting input and comments from members of the public for consideration prior to construction. Written testimony will be accepted at the meeting and may be submitted through Sept. 7. Questions can be directed to the transportation department's District Four office at 216 South Date, Shoshone, ID 83352 or by calling 208-886-7800.
