Road work, paving project on U.S. 26 east of Gooding begins Friday

SHOSHONE – A full-width roadway paving project, which will remove the driving surface and recondition the underlying base for about 11 miles of U.S. 26 beginning on the east side of Gooding, is expected to begin Friday (Sept. 9). The result of the work will be improved surface smoothness as well as increase life expectancy of the roadway.

The existing roadway surface has cracked and potholed in recent years due to minor failure of the underlying base. The work includes removing the surface, regrading and compacting the base, and repaving the roadway surface.

Work on Friday will include removing about 1,000 feet of pavement to complete an asphalt pavement test strip, and installation of traffic control for the entire project. Pending an approved test strip, work to mill and recondition the roadway base will begin Monday (Sept. 12).

Drivers should watch for flaggers. A pilot vehicle will be used during work hours, Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Traffic will drive on a gravel surface through much of the construction zone.

The project is expected to be complete in late October.

The project limits begin at the east side of Gooding and extends to about a half-mile east of Ohlinger Road in Lincoln County. The work will also include placing a concrete waterproofing to irrigation structures, replace all guardrail and install new roadway delineators.

Western Construction Inc., of Boise, is the contractor for the $3.6 million project.
