Damaged sign on Lewiston Hill to be replaced with new sign higher above the roadway and more reflective, enhancing safety
LEWISTON - A sign on U.S. 95’s Lewiston Hill damaged by a raised dump truck bed last December is being replaced later this month with a new sign higher above the roadway to avoid a repeat incident. The new sign and structure will be about 20 feet above the roadway surface, allowing two additional feet of vertical clearance as vehicles pass beneath.
By increasing the clearance, the project will improve the movement of traffic with a higher vertical profile than typical passenger vehicles – typically agricultural, construction or commerce-related movement.
ITD is not only raising the sign structure, but also installing a new sign sheeting. The new sheeting will reflect more light from headlights, making it visible at night. The new structure will be located approximately 75 feet further up the road compared to the previous location, allowing drivers more time to make a decision on travel direction.
The sign replacement is expected to finish in mid-November.
Pavement Markings Northwest Inc., of Boise, is the contractor on this project.
