Public vote could propel Idaho to national transportation award, $10,000 for students

BOISE - With just two weeks to go in polling, the Gem State’s voting public has a chance to push Idaho to a national victory in the America’s Transportation Awards. A pair of Idaho projects made the cut to the final 12 projects from across the country, and are currently in the top three in nationwide voting at www.AmericasTransportationAwards.org.

Idaho’s two projects have a chance at $10,000 in prize money to be split among the College of Engineering programs at the state’s three major universities — Boise State University, Idaho State University and University of Idaho.

In selecting Idaho's two projects, the judges recognized a historic investment in the state’s roads and bridges during the last decade through Idaho’s GARVEE Program, and a collaborative project in southeast Idaho that improves commerce, safety and the mobility of drivers — Pocatello's South Valley Connector.

The awards are a joint effort of AASHTO (the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials), AAA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

The winner will be announced Nov. 14 in Boston.
