Public meeting Monday (Nov. 21) in Potlatch will discuss Idaho 6 bridge replacement, roadwork
LEWISTON - A public meeting will be held on Monday (Nov. 21) at Potlatch City Hall to discuss an upcoming project consisting of roadwork on Idaho 6 and replacement of a bridge over Gold Creek in Latah County. The work will improve safety for drivers by straightening sharp curves, reconfiguring an intersection, and replacing an old bridge that has exceeded its design life.

The work is slated for 2019, but construction may be advanced to an earlier year if funding allows.
The project will improve the traveling experience of the general public and increase the efficiency of transporting goods and services, specifically in the farm-to-market and lumber industries.
The meeting, at 195 Sixth Street in Potlatch, will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The existing Gold Creek Bridge, built in 1956, will be replaced with a new single-span structure that is wider, longer, and able to carry larger loads. During construction, traffic will be diverted onto an adjacent temporary structure.
The project will reconstruct the curve near City Hall and realign the approach to Sixth Street (Old Mill Road). This will improve safety by reducing the number of approaches at the curve from two to one and by providing better sight distance. The reconstructed curve will also more safely accommodate larger trucks.
The roadwork will address the existing series of āSā curves immediately east of Potlatch. The preferred alternative to reconstruct and realign the whole section would require some right-of-way acquisition. This will improve safety by straightening and widening the highway. The route would also be re-classified to allow extra-length truck combinations on the roadway. The roadway will consist of two 12-foot lanes and two 6-foot shoulders.
The public can stay up-to-date on this project by checking back on the District 2 link.
