Transportation department will host public meeting on Idaho 55 bridge project Jan. 5 in Horseshoe Bend

BOISE - The Idaho Transportation Department is hosting a public meeting on Thursday, Jan. 5, to share information on a project to replace the Idaho 55/Payette River Bridge.

The meeting will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Horseshoe Bend City Hall, 112 Ada Street, in Horseshoe Bend.

Project staff will be available to answer questions, and displays will illustrate information.

The existing bridge was built in 1934, and does not meet current width standards or load requirements. The proposed bridge will be built to current safety standards, improving safety for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists. In addition to replacing the bridge, the approaches to it will be rebuilt.

At this time, construction could begin in late fall of 2017. The west half of the bridge will be built during the winter months to reduce impacts to the environment and address high water concerns. Stage two of construction involves routing traffic to the new bridge section, and demolishing the existing bridge. The construction of each stage is anticipated to take 5 to 6 months, with completion of the entire project in 10 to 12 months.

During construction, one travel lane in each direction will remain open on Idaho 55.

Public comment is being taken through Thursday, Jan. 26. Comments can be e-mailed to adam.rush@itd.idaho.gov, mailed to Idaho Transportation Department, Attn: Adam Rush, 3311 W. State Street, Boise, ID  83705, or faxed to (208) 334-8563.

Those with questions about the project or public meeting can contact Adam Rush at (208) 334-8119.
