Engineering specialists work on restricted East Kooskia Bridge starting Feb. 20

LEWISTON - Work on the 82-year-old East Kooskia Bridge is expected to begin Feb. 20 and finish by early March, if weather allows. The current bridge condition allows only for lightweight passenger vehicles. This work will restore structural integrity so the bridge can handle heavier loads.

The bridge will remain completely closed to all traffic to expedite the operation, but an alternate river crossing sits just a mile and a half away.

The 481-foot-long, steel-truss bridge is on the Idaho 13 Business Route, just off U.S. 12. It is a single-lane structure at milepost 75.2 built in 1935.

ITD engineers and crews, in conjunction with an expert bridge engineering firm, will perform the work.
