Work on U.S. 12 between Lewiston and Orofino resumes April 15

LEWISTON - Construction work is set to begin April 15 for a section of two-lane U.S. 12 from Arrow Bridge to Big Canyon Creek Bridge, a 20-mile section of highway that runs between Lewiston and Orofino in north-central Idaho. The two-month-long project will benefit the driving public by extending the pavement life and upgrading signs and guardrail to current standards.

Commuters and commercial trucking are the most common users of the highway, and the primary beneficiaries of this work.

Remaining work includes milling off and replacing about 2.5 inches of asphalt pavement (44,000 tons), along with upgrading approximately 1,300 square feet of signage. Work to replace about 64,000 feet of guardrail in this section was completed last fall.

Crews will work around the clock Monday through Saturday to accomplish the work quickly and safely. They will be milling at night and paving during the day.

Knife River Corporation, of Boise, is the contractor on this $5.3 million project.

Drivers should expect minor delays of up to 30 minutes during construction. Flaggers and pilot cars will be used to direct traffic, one lane at a time. ITD appreciates the patience of motorists during this period.
