I-15 restrictions begin Monday in Pocatello for summer bridge maintenance
POCATELLO - Interstate 15 will be reduced to one lane in each direction at the South 5th Interchange, Barton Road Bridge and Terry Street Bridge in Pocatello starting Monday (May 8). For a map and details, download the Pocatello Bridges fact sheet.
The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is repairing the bridges this summer as a part of a multi-year maintenance project. ITD plans to invest $95 million into bridge repairs and pavement improvements on I-15 in 2017 and 2018.
The work in Pocatello includes resurfacing bridge decks, installing new sign structures and replacing guardrail. Five-foot sidewalks and curb ramps will be added on the east side of South 5th Avenue below the interchange.
During the bridge repairs, traffic on I-15 will travel on one side of the interstate (either northbound or southbound) while crews work on the other side. Short-term lane restrictions and flaggers may be necessary on local roads.
In addition, ITD will perform maintenance work at the Pocatello Creek
Interchange, Chubbuck Interchange and American Falls Interchange bridges
later this summer.
Motorists are urged to plan extra time when traveling through the work zones, pay attention to signage and changing traffic patterns, and slow down. "Safety is our highest priority during the construction on I-15," said ITD Engineering Manager Dan Harelson. "Please be prepared to encounter multiple work zones when traveling through the area."
To sign up for email notices about construction on I-15, text INTERSTATE15 to 22828. Details also will be posted to www.itd.idaho.gov/I-15construction.
