Resurfacing project to improve Idaho 44 between I-84 and Star will begin Sunday night

BOISE – The Idaho Transportation Department will begin work Sunday night (May 14) to resurface Idaho 44 between Interstate 84 and the city of Star. Construction is expected to be complete early this fall.

The pavement improvements on Idaho 44 are expected to extend the life of the roadway and prevent more costly repairs in the future.

The project will begin with a full reconstruction of the roadway surface within the city limits of Star and Middleton. Curb ramps in Star will be improved to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and a new right-turn lane will be added to westbound Idaho 44 at Hartley Lane in Middleton.

In July, ITD will begin resurfacing the 11-mile stretch of Idaho 44 between I-84 and Star.

To reduce traffic impacts during the weekly commute, construction will occur at night and on weekends. Idaho 44 will be reduced to a single lane from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night. Temporary signals or flaggers will direct traffic and the speed limit will be reduced. Similar lane restrictions may be in effect throughout the weekend.

All lanes will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

ITD urges motorists to plan ahead and slow down in construction zones. To request updates during the construction on Idaho 44, text Idaho44 to 22828, email jennifer.gonzalez@itd.idaho.gov or contact Jennifer Gonzalez at (208) 334-8938. Traffic updates also will be available at 511.idaho.gov.
