Public meetings slated for U.S. 20 bridge crossings in Blaine and Camas counties next week

SHOSHONE – The public is invited to review and comment on the proposed reconstruction of two bridge crossings along U.S. 20 in Blaine and Camas counties at a pair of public open house meetings next week. The upcoming projects will replace aging culvert and fill crossings at Willow Creek and Rock Creek with bridges.

Meetings will be held at the following times and locations:
• Tuesday, May 23, 4-6 p.m., Camas County Senior & Community Center, 129 W. Willow Ave., Fairfield.
• Wednesday, May 24, 4-6 p.m., Bellevue City Hall, 115 East Pine Street, Bellevue.

Those interested in the project may drop in anytime during the meeting to view preliminary designs, project illustrations, proposed traffic control plans and other related information.

The purpose of the project is to replace each crossing due to differing factors. The Willow Creek crossing (milepost 164.5) in Camas County, installed in 1954, has significant deterioration to the existing culvert pipe and is being undermined at each end of the pipe. The Rock Creek culvert crossing (milepost 173) in Blaine County, installed in 1956, is deteriorating, needs extensive maintenance. Replacement of both crossings will enhance fish passage by eliminating barriers and increasing access to habitat.

Construction of both crossings could start as soon as late 2018 and take 12 to 18 months to construct at each site.

Representatives from the Idaho Transportation Department design team will be on hand to answer questions and gather input. Written comments will be accepted at the meeting and may be submitted through June 2.

Comments can be mailed to ITD's District 4 Office, 216 South Date, Shoshone, ID 83352 or emailed to nathan.jerke@itd.idaho.gov.
