U.S. 95 reconstruction from Sheep Creek to Smith Creek resumes June 5

COEUR d'ALENE - Reconstruction and widening of a two-mile section of U.S. 95, in southern Benewah County, will begin Monday (June 5). The work will rehabilitate the Sheep Creek Bridge and upgrade this roadway section with safety, drainage, and pavement improvements.

The primary partners/stakeholders are Benewah County, the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, and area residents.

Motorists should expect delays through the construction zone. Sheep Creek Bridge will be reduced to one-way traffic, controlled by a stoplight, from June to August. Access to nearby properties will be maintained at all times, but residents should expect slight delays. Construction is scheduled to be complete by late October.

The project will improve the alignment of a winding section of highway to increase visibility and allow vehicles to safely travel at the posted 60-mph speed limit, reducing accidents and injuries. The project also will reduce future maintenance costs by adding an all-weather pavement section and upgrading drainage system that does not require continual repairs.

MA DeAtley Construction Inc. is the contractor on this $7.5 million project.

In the first phase of this project last year, crews reconstructed a 3.9-mile section of U.S. 95 just west of Sanders.
