Weekend paving on I-84 in Canyon County begins at 7 p.m. Friday; expect delays and avoid area if possible

BOISE – The Idaho Transportation Department is encouraging motorists to avoid Interstate 84 this weekend during paving between Nampa and Caldwell. Interstate 84 will be reduced to one lane in both directions from 7 p.m. Friday (June 2) to 5 a.m. Monday (June 5).

During weekend work, all motorists will cross over to the eastbound side of I-84 between the Franklin Road Interchange in Caldwell (exit 29) and the Franklin Boulevard Interchange in Nampa (exit 36). The westbound on-and off-ramps at Franklin Road, Karcher Boulevard and Northside Boulevard interchanges (exits 29, 33 and 35) will be closed. Construction map

ITD will complete the majority of work during four weekends in June to keep I-84 open during the weekday commute. The next three scheduled weekends are June 9-12, June 16-19 and June 23-26.

Work may be rescheduled due to inclement weather.

Construction on this section of I-84 was accelerated after harsh winter weather caused the pavement to deteriorate more quickly than anticipated. The project will prolong the pavement life until additional capacity can be added to I-84. ITD also will resurface several interchange ramps and improve guardrails.
