Work begins on Idaho 44 in Middleton Tuesday evening (June 6)

BOISE -- The Idaho Transportation Department will begin reconstructing Idaho 44 in Middleton on Tuesday evening, June 6. The work is part of a larger project to resurface the highway from Interstate 84 through the city of Star.

The work to reconstruct Idaho 44 in Middleton will require ITD to remove the existing road base and  excavate approximately two feet. Crews will then bring in and place new road base materials. Once this work is complete, crews will pave the road surface. Later this summer, ITD will also add a westbound right-turn lane at Middleton Road and Hartley Lane.

Idaho 44 will be reduced to one lane at night in the city of Middleton. Flaggers will direct traffic each night through the work zone. During the day all lanes through Middleton will be open and motorists will drive on a gravel surface.

The work in Middleton is expected to be completed in mid-July.

Motorists are advised to plan extra time when traveling through the area. ITD reminds motorists to plan ahead and slow down in the construction zones.

The work to resurface Idaho 44 in the city of Star will be completed early next week.

The project is expected to extend the life of the road surface and prevent more costly repairs in the future.
