Oversized shipment will travel from Port of Lewiston to Genesee, using U.S. 12 and U.S. 95, starting late Friday (June 16)
LEWISTON – The Idaho Transportation Department has granted a permit to allow an oversized shipment to travel from the Port of Lewiston to the Genesee area.
Omega Morgan received a permit to move a transformer to a Bonneville Power Administration substation south of Genesee.
The oversized load weighs 938,580 pounds, is 18.6-feet wide,
18-feet tall and 374 feet long. It will travel from 11 p.m. on Friday (June 16)
to 5 a.m. on Saturday (June 17), and will reach its destination in a single trip.
Once loaded onto the transport truck, the shipment will move north toward 6th Avenue North. It will proceed onto Idaho 128, then cross U.S. 12 to Frontage Road. The crossing is scheduled to take approximately 10 minutes. Using Frontage Road will allow the transport to bypass the northbound bridge at the U.S. 12/U.S. 95 interchange. The transport will then travel northbound on the Lewiston Grade, and exit onto U.S.-195 to bypass a bridge at this interchange.
The shipment will climb the Lewiston Grade at approximately 3 to 5 mph. Based on this speed, it will take the transport about 2.5 hours to exit the port area and crest the top of the hill. From the top of the hill, it is 2 to 3 miles to the Genesee/Julietta Road exit.
Pilot vehicles will escort the transport, and alert other vehicles to the shipment.
