ITD Office of Highway Safety teams up with Idaho teens - RSA tomorrow (June 22)
BOISE – The Idaho Transportation Department Office of Highway Safety is teaming up with teens from across the state to improve safety on Idaho’s roads. Approximately 50 teens from across the state will take part in a Road Safety Assessment (RSA) in downtown Boise, watching for risky driving behaviors — especially aggressive, distracted and unrestrained drivers.
The RSA will begin just after 9 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday, June 22). The morning will begin by introducing the teens to the concept (what to watch for and how to do it), before moving right outside to Front Street to conduct the assessment from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
“This is an eye-opening experience for many of these teens,” said Ken Corder from the Office of Highway Safety. “These are young and impressionable drivers; we hope this exercise will help them develop good behaviors behind the wheel.”
The Teen RSA is part of the youth program at the Association of Idaho Cities Conference taking place in Boise this week. During the conference, the teens are learning different ways they can make a difference in their communities.
“These kids are the leaders and influencers in their cities,” Corder said. “We want them to take what they learn back into their communities, where they can make an impact among their peers and help us reach those young drivers.”
