Public invited to review final design plans June 29 for Snake River Bridge, Idaho 55 improvements in Marsing

MARSING – The Idaho Transportation Department is hosting an open house next week to present final design plans for the Snake River Bridge replacement and Idaho 55 improvements in Marsing.

The open house is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, at the American Legion Hall in Marsing (126 S. 2nd Ave. W.). Visitors will have an opportunity to ask questions of project staff and submit written comments. Displays will illustrate information.

The transportation department plans to replace the Snake River Bridge, built in 1955, with a new two-lane bridge with wider shoulders. The north side of the bridge will include an eight-foot sidewalk for pedestrians and bicyclists. The bridge, the primary river crossing in Marsing, is showing signs of wear from increased traffic volumes and trucking loads.

The project is expected to improve safety and traffic flow for many years. Construction is expected to begin in 2018.

The project includes repaving 2.3 miles of Idaho 55 between Marsing and the U.S. 95 Junction. Improvements include extending curb and gutter in Marsing, updating and adding several pedestrian ramps, and improving drainage. The transportation department also will improve the intersection of Idaho 55 and 78.

More details about the project are available at itd.idaho.gov/d3 (click on “Design Projects”). Comments on the project are being accepted through July 13. Comments can be e-mailed to adam.rush@itd.idaho.gov, or mailed to Idaho Transportation Department, Attn: Adam Rush, 3311 W. State Street, Boise, ID  83703.
