New I-15 construction project begins Monday (July 31) near Montana state line

RIGBY – New lane restrictions will take effect Monday (July 31) on Interstate 15 near the Montana state line as the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) begins its seventh construction project on I-15 in eastern Idaho this summer.

For a map and details, download the Spencer to Montana fact sheet and the I-15 construction poster.

The newest project includes resurfacing 15.3 miles of interstate between Spencer, Idaho, and the Montana state line. ITD will repave ramps and cross streets at the Stoddard Creek Interchange and Humphry Interchange (exits 184 and 190) as part of the project.

Crews will complete the work in four-mile sections. While each section is under construction, I-15 will be reduced to one lane in each direction and the speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph.

Lane restrictions will remain in place overnight to protect motorists from abrupt pavement edges during construction. The speed limit will be raised to 65 mph when crews are not working.

Commercial drivers transporting permitted loads wider than 14 feet need to contact Resident Engineer Wade Allen (208-745-5680) or Staff Engineer Curtis Calderwood (208-745-5637) 48 hours in advance for special authorization to pass through the work zones.

The project is part of ITD’s plan to repair pavement and bridges along 190 miles of I-15 over the next several years.

To sign up for email notices about construction on I-15, text INTERSTATE15 to 22828. Details also will be posted to

Western Construction Inc., of Boise, is the contractor for the $6.94 million project.
