Bridge replacement and I-84 pavement rehabilitation near Caldwell begins in September

BOISE-Work to replace the bridge at the Sand Hollow Interchange in Canyon County and rehabilitate pavement on Interstate 84 in Caldwell will begin in early September.

Pavement rehabilitation will extend the life of the roadway from the Sand Hollow Interchange (Exit 17) to Caldwell and provide for a smoother driving surface. Work also will include ramp reconstruction at Sand Hollow and at Exit 25 (Idaho Highway 44). During construction, traffic will be shifted into a crossover pattern and speeds will be reduced.

Some ramp work will require motorists to follow a posted detour during overnight hours. Those detours will be clearly marked.

Demolition and replacement of the Sand Hollow overpass will begin in September. During demolition and reconstruction, the bridge will be open to one-way traffic, controlled by traffic signals on either end of the structure.

Construction is scheduled to occur during both day and night hours in both work zones. Motorists are strongly encouraged to slow down and pay attention.

Work on the mainline pavement is anticipated to be complete this winter, with some ramp paving in 2018. The bridge will be complete in summer 2018.
