Lane width to be added to temporary road bypassing damaged ID-5

PLUMMER, Idaho - The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) will build additional lane width to the temporary road circumventing a damaged section of Idaho Highway 5 near Plummer starting Wednesday, September 20, causing possible traffic delays.

An existing temporary road - known as a shoo fly - was constructed this spring after a mudslide destroyed a section of ID-5 roughly six miles east of Plummer. This allowed for traffic to detour the damaged area.

Beginning Wednesday, crews will build an additional 13.5 feet to the width of the shoo fly for better traffic flow. During this construction, only one travel lane will be open. Traffic control will be in place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the project. Crews anticipate completing work by the end of next week (September 29).

Construction to repair the damaged section of ID-5 is scheduled for late Spring of 2018. ITD estimates that long-term fix will be completed by the summer of 2018.
