Bridge struck yesterday, Eden Road closed over I-84 as engineers assess damage
EDEN – The Eden Road overpass along Interstate 84 in eastern Jerome County was hit and damaged by a illegal high load yesterday afternoon, closing the county roadway until engineers can assess the damage.
At about 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Nov. 1), an excavator that was too high to pass safely under the span caused damage to three bridge girders on the Eden Road (1600 East Road) overpass.

The overpass, located about two miles west of the Valley Road interchange (Exit 188), is closed to all traffic. Drivers are required to find an alternate route to cross I-84 at Valley Road or to the west at the Idaho Highway 50 interchange (Exit 182).
ITD engineers will be on site today to assess the damage to the bridge, determine if traffic can safely pass on Eden Road, and consider options for repair.
The crash occurred in an active construction zone where traffic was already shifted to a two-lane, two-way pattern on the westbound lanes. Eastbound traffic has been shifted onto the nearly-complete eastbound lanes of I-84, and westbound traffic remains in a single lane.
The initial cost of repairs will be state funded until the cost is recovered from the driver’s insurance.
