Idaho Transportation Board provides direction for future office in south-central Idaho
BOISE – The Idaho Transportation Board approved a resolution today (Thursday, Dec. 14) to analyze three alternate locations for the Idaho Transportation Department District 4 administrative office from its current location in Shoshone to near the Interstate 84/U.S. 93 junction.
At its regular monthly meeting, held in Boise, the board voted unanimously in favor of selecting a consultant to perform a site-comparison analysis of the three alternatives, identified as the best use of public funds to provide highest public benefit.
The District 4 office building, currently located in Shoshone, was constructed in several phases beginning in 1952 and is in need of life, safety, and access improvements comparable to the cost of a new facility. As part of the resolution, the board directed ITD staff to consult with Idaho Division of Public Works to conduct a site-comparison analysis and facility needs assessment of three potential office sites.
The three alternatives include development of a 100-acre parcel owned by ITD south of I-84, purchase a bare lot in the Crossroads Point subdivision near the junction, or purchase and complete construction of an existing office building in the Crossroads Point subdivision.
The resolution does not constitute a final decision by the board to relocate the office, but is intended to provide necessary data for the ongoing discussion.
The board had approved construction of a new administrative office in September 2016 with funding and construction scheduled in FY-2019. ITD has also completed economic and social impact studies to determine the effects of the office location for the department and local communities.
A schedule when the site-comparison analysis is to be presented to the board was not given.
