Public input sought on proposed changes to Environmental Assessment, FONSI for the U.S. 93 corridor

SHOSHONE - The public is invited to provide testimony on proposed changes to the Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) documents for US-93 in Jerome County.

The Idaho Transportation Department is conducting a public hearing to propose a change to the approved US-93 corridor plan from Interstate 84 to Idaho Highway 25.  ITD is proposing to remove an action from the EA/FONSI requiring the construction of a shared use trail on the west side of US-93. No other changes to the EA and FONSI are being proposed.

The public hearing is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. on April 17 at the Idaho Department of Fish and Game District Office, 318 South 417 East in Jerome.

The public hearing will be an open-house format with no formal presentation. Displays highlighting the proposed document changes, as well as illustrations of current roadway designs and schedules of projects along US-93 will be available for review. ITD staff will be available to answer questions regarding the proposed change to the EA as well as planned improvements.

During the hearing, a hearing officer will receive written testimony or privately record oral testimony and a Spanish translator will be available. Written testimony can also be submitted by email to jessica.williams@itd.idaho.gov, or sent by mail to Idaho Transportation Department, Public Information, 216 South Date, Shoshone, ID, 83352. Items postmarked by May 8 will become part of the official record for the meeting.

The public can review the EA in advance of the hearing at the ITD District office in Shoshone, or online at www.itd.idaho.gov/d4/ under the tab Design Projects & Corridor Studies: US-93 I-84 to ID-25.  Electronic copies can also be made available by calling (208) 886-7809.

The overall purpose of corridor improvements is to expand US-93 between I-84 and ID-25, specifically addressing increased roadway capacity, improved safety, and provide improved intersections and private access. ITD intends to purchase adequate right of way for future addition of a shared use path.

Additional information is available on ITD's Web site, or by contacting Project Manager Sam Purcer at (208) 886-7812 or by e-mail at sam.purcer@itd.idaho.gov.
