Signal change to take place next week near Jerome high school

SHOSHONE - Beginning next week, drivers will see a change in traffic signal operation at Idaho Highway 25 and Tiger Drive in Jerome as new phasing is implemented to reduce delays and improve pedestrian safety.

“There will now be a 10-second lead time where a walk signal is present for pedestrians prior to a green light signaling vehicles they may proceed,” said ITD traffic engineer Bruce Christensen. “All vehicles will still have to yield to foot traffic, but this new phasing will increase pedestrian visibility.”

Temporary signs will alert motorists of the changed signal phasing. New permanent signage will also be added to direct drivers to yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians.

Christensen said that this type of signal phasing has been successfully implemented elsewhere in the state and is expected to be a good fit for this intersection in Jerome.
