UPDATE: Interstate 84 blasting work will create minor delays
CALDWELL - There will be minor delays on Interstate 84 on Jan. 7 and Jan. 14 for blasting work, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The blasting, scheduled to occur between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on those days, will be in the median of Interstate 84. The work, expected to last between 5 and 10 minutes, is being done just east of the existing Franklin Interchange bridge to remove basalt in the median area. It is part of the Franklin Interchange (Exit 29) reconstruction project in Caldwell.

Eastbound and westbound motorists on Interstate 84 will be escorted through the area by pilot cars and stopped by flaggers prior to the Franklin Interchange to ensure the area is clear for blasting. Motorists on Franklin will be stopped by flaggers. On Jan. 7 and Jan. 14, the left lanes, or inside lanes, of Interstate 84 in the eastbound and westbound section will close in the Franklin Interchange area starting at 7 a.m. The lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday morning.

Traffic delays are expected to last 15 to 20 minutes each Sunday.

Motorists will be asked to turn off two-way radios and cell phones as they travel through the construction area between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Jan. 7 and Jan. 14.

For information, check the Idaho Transportation Department's Internet site at 511.idaho.gov.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This release updates one sent Tuesday, Jan. 2, with information about the inside lanes closing on Jan. 7 and Jan. 14, and the blasting work being done on the east side of the interchange instead of the west side.
