21st Avenue to close between Franklin and Chicago
CALDWELL - In order for crews to install storm sewer pipe, 21st Avenue between Franklin Road and Chicago Street will close for two days starting Thursday morning, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The closure will start at 5 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18. The section of  21st Avenue will reopen on Friday, Jan. 19, at midnight. The closure could be extended if weather conditions change.

Access to businesses will remain open.

The storm sewer pipe is part of a larger project to improve the Franklin Interchange. The reconstruction project, which started in early December, will enhance several aspects of the interchange. The current two-lane Franklin Overpass will be replaced with a six-lane bridge. The new overpass will have two through lanes in each direction and dual left turn lanes in each direction.

The interchange ramps will be lengthened and widened to two lanes at their intersection with Franklin. Franklin Road will be widened from two to five lanes between the overpass and Specht Avenue. The new road will have a curb, gutter, sidewalk, bicycle lanes and shoulder. Aviation Way will be widened at the intersection with Franklin Road. A new traffic signal also will be added.
