21st Avenue to close between Franklin and Chicago
CALDWELL - There will be a temporary closure of 21st Avenue between Franklin Road and Chicago Street on Thursday, Feb. 15, to allow construction crews to complete work on a storm sewer system, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
During construction in January on the system, a temporary asphalt patch was installed. On Thursday, the temporary patch will be removed and a permanent patch installed.
The closure will start at 8 a.m. Thursday morning, and last until 5 p.m. on Thursday evening.
Access to businesses will remain open.
The storm sewer system and permanent asphalt patch are part of a larger project to improve the Franklin Interchange. The reconstruction project, which started in early December, will enhance several aspects of the interchange. The current two-lane Franklin Overpass will be replaced with a six-lane bridge. The new overpass will have two through lanes in each direction and dual left turn lanes in each direction.
The interchange ramps will be lengthened and widened to two lanes at their intersection with Franklin. Franklin Road will be widened from two to five lanes between the overpass and Specht Avenue. The new road will have a curb, gutter, sidewalk, bicycle lanes and shoulder. Aviation Way will be widened at the intersection with Franklin Road. A new traffic signal also will be added.
During the fall and winter months, the Idaho Transportation Department advises motorists to monitor road conditions by visiting 511.idaho.gov or calling 511.
