Event reminder: VII Roadshow (vehicle & highway technology)
Media advisory (not for dissemination)

BOISE - The Idaho Transportation Department invites you to attend a demonstration of new vehicle/highway technology Thursday, March 1, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Idaho State Police driving track in Meridian. The demonstration will open with a news conference, featuring ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) America's chief executive officer Neil Schuster from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Specially equipped vehicles will demonstrate:

 -  Traffic signal violation warning: An intelligent intersection distributes instantaneous traffic signal information to nearby vehicles. The receiving vehicle uses this data and vehicle positions and speed to determine the risk of an unsafe passage through the intersection.

 -  Public safety vehicle priority signal activation: A public safety vehicle issues a request to the intersection for signal priority. The traffic signal state is changed if appropriate, allowing the vehicle fast, safe passage through the intersection.

 -  In-vehicle signing: Dynamic road condition data is received from roadside equipment. Audible driver advisories are presented to the driver as the vehicle approaches an active work zone, avoiding a potentially dangerous situation.

Your readers/viewers should find the demonstration intriguing.

It will provide opportunities for very strong visuals/photographs. You will be able to ride in one of the test vehicles and experience the crash avoidance technology. We also will make representatives from ITS America and technology experts available for interviews. If you would like assistance in making interview arrangements, please contact: Mel Coulter, Idaho Transportation Department, Office of Public Affairs, 334-8002.
