Construction update for eastern Idaho May 12-17

RIGBY - Here is the Idaho Transportation Department construction update for eastern Idaho for May 12-17. Construction activity will depend on the weather:

Sunnyside I-15 Interchange to I-15B Traffic on Interstate 15 south of Idaho Falls is two-way, two-lanes from milepost 114 to 120 and will be throughout the summer. The speed limit is reduced from 75 mph to 55 mph. Construction of the $21 million interchange is scheduled for completion by Fall 2006. The contractor is Idaho Construction of Kimberly.

I-15, breakaway signs, Idaho 33 Interchange to Montana border G.V. Construction of Garden Valley is replacing signs along the interstate (north- and southbound) from Roberts to the Montana border. The new signs are designed to break away on impact to reduce injury and property damage in case of accidents. Motorists are advised to use caution in work zones.

U.S. 20, Hitt and St. Leon interchanges Telford, Hitt and St. Leon roads were closed Wednesday morning where they intersect U.S. 20 north of Idaho Falls. Businesses on those roads can be accessed from the county roads. Depending on weather, traffic will be routed onto the northbound lanes of U.S. 20 by the end of the week and will remain two-way, two-lanes until the project is completed this fall. Western Construction of Boise is the contractor for this $19 million project.

U.S. 20, Sugar City to Twin Groves Southbound traffic is one-way, one-lane through the work zone as the concrete highway surface is ground to provide better driving conditions and to smooth cracks. The project extends from milepost 342 south of St. Anthony to milepost 249 at Twin Groves northeast of St. Anthony. The speed limit is 45 mph during work hours. Diversified Concrete Cutting of Sparks, Nev., is the contractor for the $500,000 project.

U.S. 20, South of Ashton Traffic is one-lane, one-way and controlled by flaggers and pilot cars between mileposts 353 and 360 south of Ashton on U.S. 20. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes. The speed limit is 45 mph. H-K Contractors of Idaho Falls is the contractor for this $1.7 million Cement Recycled Asphalt Base Stabilization (CRABS) reconstruction project.

Idaho 33, Canyon Creek Bridge Work is suspended on the bridge structure until late June or early July, awaiting the delivery of steel girders. Work began in December, and new piers for the structure have been constructed. Sletten Construction of Great Falls, Mont., will begin setting the steel girders for the new bridge when the beams arrive. The $4.3 million project is scheduled for completion by fall. The speed limit is 45 mph. Traffic continue to use the old bridge throughout construction.

U.S. 93, Arco west H-K Contractors of Idaho Falls is widening the shoulders of U.S. 93 west of Arco from milepost 233 to 246 in preparation for reconstructing the roadway. The speed limit is 45 mph. Where one-way traffic is required, pilot cars and flaggers will assist motorists. Work is scheduled for completion in June. A seal coat will be applied in August.

U.S. 93, North Fork Bridge to Gibbonsville Paving is scheduled to begin Monday (May 16) on U.S. 93 from milepost 326 and 337. The speed limit is 55 mph. Traffic is one-way, one-lane. Flaggers and pilot cars direct traffic through the work zone. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes
