Public invited to view plans for I-84 improvements in Canyon County

NAMPA - The Idaho Transportation Department will host two separate open houses for the public to learn more about the planned improvements for Interstate 84 in Canyon County.

ITD is in different phases of study, design, or construction on I-84. The open houses will focus on activity from the Franklin Blvd. interchange in Nampa to the Franklin Rd. interchange in Caldwell. Construction in Nampa is scheduled to resume in February as design work continues for the sections to the west.

Attendees will have the opportunity to review and comment on ITD's "preferred alternative" for improvements between Karcher Rd. and Franklin Rd. in Caldwell. These include a third travel lane, replacement bridges for Middleton and Ustick Roads over I-84, and modifications to the Karcher Interchange. Construction for this section is anticipated to begin in 2021.

"The timing of this work is complex and we are advancing projects as quickly as possible," said ITD Program Manager Amy Schroeder. "The public's continued engagement in this work will help construction go smoother and ensure improvements meet expectations."

Both open houses will take place from 4-7 p.m. on different evenings.

  • Tuesday, Jan. 22 at the Nampa Holiday Inn (16245 N . Merchant Way)
  • Wednesday, Jan. 23 at the Caldwell Best Western Plus (908 Specht Ave.)

Over the next several years, ITD plans to invest more than $300 million into I-84 in Canyon County. These projects will improve safety, mobility, and economic opportunity in the region for many years to come.
