Construction on Sunnyside Road in Idaho Falls to start Monday

RIGBY - Construction on Sunnyside Road in Idaho Falls will begin Monday, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

Crews will begin expansion of a two‑lane section of Sunnyside to five lanes, from the newly constructed Sunnyside/Yellowstone intersection to Holmes Avenue.

Crews will first set up construction signs for traffic control. This will be followed by relocation or placement of utility lines. Construction will begin at the Sunnyside/Yellowstone intersection and proceed east to Holmes Avenue.

The project includes reconstructing the roadway to five lanes, with new curb and gutter, sidewalks, pathways, illumination, traffic signals, landscaping, storm sewers, and a sound wall. Road construction is scheduled for completion Oct. 31, with the sound wall scheduled for completion Dec. 4.

During construction, traffic will be diverted, although local traffic will still have access to businesses or homes along the 1.6‑mile construction zone. Intersecting streets Rollandet Avenue/Park Road and Boulevard/Stonebrook Lane will remain open to north‑south traffic.

Sponsored by the city of Idaho Falls, the project will be administered by ITD using federal funds. When completed, Sunnyside Road will be five lanes from the Interstate 15 Sunnyside Interchange to Ammon.

ITD awarded H‑K Contractors, Inc. of Idaho Falls the $10,220,564.70 million project on Jan. 30.

The Sunnyside widening project is a companion project to the three‑year, $23 million Sunnyside Interchange project completed in November, which connected I‑15 to the city of Idaho Falls Sunnyside Road.
