More than 1 million Idahoans committed to organ donation -- press event scheduled Tuesday in Boise to celebrate milestone

BOISE -- More than one million Idahoans are committed to organ donation, making the state one of the highest per-capita donor registries in the nation.

To celebrate this milestone achieved and recognize the many contributing partners, the "Yes Idaho" Donate Life Coalition is holding a press event Tuesday (April 9) at 10:30 a.m. at the Idaho Transportation Department Headquarters' lobby, 3311 W. State Street, in Boise.

The donor registry documents a person's consent for organ, eye and tissue donation after death. An organ donor can potentially save 75 lives.

At the event Tuesday, the "Yes Idaho" Donate Life Coalition will recognize local community partners who have been an integral part of saving lives through organ donation. In addition, Intermountain Donor Services Director Alex McDonald will discuss the $2 voluntary donation Idahoans can now make to the organ donation program when they receive or renew their driver's license. The money is used educate Idahoans about the need for organ, eye and tissue donation.

Since the program started in August 2018, more than $4,000 has been raised.

The Idaho Lions Eye Bank will also announce its new name and unveil an accompanying logo.

For more information about organ, eye and tissue donation, go to the "Yes Idaho" website or call 1-866-Yes-Idaho.
