Media Advisory: Limited opportunity to gather footage of ID-55 landslide

BOISE - Tuesday morning a landslide fell on Idaho Highway 55 near Smiths Ferry, blocking the highway. An initial survey estimates nearly 15 feet of rock, mud, and debris is covering the road. Crews are working to clear the area, which is expected to take many hours and last into the evening.

ITD will escort media to survey the slide. Interested reporters should meet at the ITD maintenance shed located at the intersection of ID-55 and the Banks-Lowman Road at 11:30 Tuesday. For the safety of the media and crew working the cleanup, a limited number of vehicles will be allowed past the closure barricades. At 11:30, those gathered at the maintenance shed will carpool to the landslide. Those joining the survey should wear high visibility vests.
