I-84 will be detoured overnight April 22-26 for Idaho Power transmission line installation
CALDWELL – Interstate 84 will be closed at night between the Franklin Road Interchange in Caldwell and Karcher/Midland Interchange in Nampa on April 22-26 (Monday – Friday) while Idaho Power installs a new transmission line across the interstate.
A detour route will be in place each night between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Motorists will exit I-84 at the interchange ramps and follow a detour along US-20/26 and Midland Boulevard. Flaggers will direct traffic. View the detour map.
“The Idaho Transportation Department routinely works with utility companies to reduce impacts to the traveling public,” said ITD’s Southwest Idaho Office District Engineer Amy Revis. “We have partnered closely with Idaho Power for this work to ensure it is done safely, efficiently, and with the least disruption to Interstate travel possible.”
During the overnight closures, Idaho Power will install a new transmission line across I-84. The transmission line will serve the new Skyway Ranch Substation located east of the Franklin Road Interchange. Click here for a photo of the new poles.
“Through years of careful evaluation, Idaho Power has identified the need for a new substation to serve customers north of Interstate 84’s Franklin interchange,” Idaho Power Project Manager Tim Phillips said. “While we realize this is an inconvenience for drivers, we’re excited about the opportunity to improve on our record of reliable, affordable service to customers in this area.”
The closures will be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather.
