Construction to begin May 15 on Interstate 15 railroad bridges in Inkom

POCATELLO - Two Interstate 15 railroad overpasses in Inkom (milepost 55.6) will be reduced to single lanes as crews replace bridge joints the next four weeks, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Beginning Tuesday (May 15), the right lane of the northbound I-15 will be closed for about a week. Crews will begin placing traffic controls at about 7 a.m. Tuesday, and construction should commence at about 8 a.m.

One lane will remain open during construction, but speeds will be reduced to 65 mph and vehicles will be restricted to a maximum width of 11 feet.

Crews will remove and replace existing bridge joints and do some minor surface work. Improvements will extend the life of the bridge and provide a smoother, more comfortable ride for motorists.

After work concludes on the right lane, the project will shift to the left lane. And when the northbound bridge is completed, crews will repeat the process on the southbound bridge. Each lane of the four lanes is expected to take about a week to complete. The project should be finished by mid-June.

Contractor for the $300,000 project is Jack B. Parsons, formerly Bannock Paving, of Pocatello.

The same area will receive a seal coat application as part of an unrelated project later this summer.
