I-84 traffic shift between South Jerome Interchange and the U.S. 93 Junction begins Sunday
SHOSHONE - Traffic on Interstate 84 from Exit 168 (South Jerome Interchange) to the U.S. 93 Junction
(milepost 167-172) will shift to the westbound lanes beginning Sunday (May 20), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The traffic shift will allow crews to rehabilitate the eastbound lanes.
I-84 will be reduced from four lanes to two, with one lane open in each direction.
Vehicles are limited to a maximum width of 14 feet through the construction zone. The speed limit will be reduced to 65 mph. Delays of 10-15 minutes can be expected. The Jerome Rest Area will be closed during this phase of construction.
Work on the eastbound lanes is expected to be completed by July.
The project's next stage will rehabilitate westbound I-84 from Exit 168 (South Jerome Interchange) to the U.S. 93 Junction (milepost 167-172). Work will be performed in July and August with similar lane and vehicle width restrictions.
This section of interstate is deteriorated and cracked. The $9.7 million rehabilitation project, scheduled to be completed by September, will create a safer, smoother surface. Western Construction of Boise is the project contractor.
Motorists are reminded to slow down in highway construction zones. Rear-end collisions account for most work zone crashes. Following too closely, inattentive driving, failing to yield the right of way and improper lane changes also contribute to accidents in work zones.
