Chinden/Cloverdale intersection, eastbound I-84 to experience weekend closures
BOISE - Construction projects will prompt weekend closures in the Boise/Meridian area beginning Friday night, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The intersection of Chinden Boulevard and Cloverdale Road will close at 7 p.m. Friday (June 1), and will reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. Monday (June 4) as part of the Chinden widening project. No turns will be allowed from Chinden onto Cloverdale, or from Cloverdale onto Chinden.

Chinden will remain open to two-way westbound and eastbound traffic, and access to the Hewlett-Packard (H-P) Cloverdale entrance/Explorer Drive intersection will remain open to northbound Cloverdale traffic. The closure will allow crews to excavate and reconstruct the roadway. An additional one-day intersection closure is expected at a later date for final paving.

Motorists can access Hewlett-Packard (H-P) from either the Five Mile or Cloverdale entrances. Night and weekend traffic is required to use the Cloverdale entrance on the west side of the H-P campus. Central Paving Inc. of Boise is the contractor on this $5.5 million project. Work is expected to be complete in late 2007.

On Interstate 84, eastbound I-84 will close to overnight traffic between the Eagle Road Interchange and I-184 (the Connector) from midnight to 5 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday (June 2 and 3). Signage will direct traffic around the project area, using Franklin Road as a detour route. The detour allows crews to make repairs to the Cloverdale Road Overpass, which was hit by an over-height vehicle in July 2006.

The overpass is also closed to all vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles through early July. During construction, Cloverdale between Overland Road and I-84, and between Franklin Road and I-84, is open to local traffic only. Traffic is detoured to Eagle Road via Franklin and Overland roads.

McAlvain Construction is the contractor on this $442,000 project.
