Eastern Idaho highway construction update

RIGBY - Construction is moving into high gear on a number of highway projects in eastern Idaho, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Following is a construction update through May 9:

Sunnyside I-15 Interchange to I-15B Construction has resumed on the Sunnyside Interstate 15 Interchange, Snake River Bridge and five-lane connecting road. Traffic on I-15 will be two-way, two-lane throughout the summer. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph between milepost 114 and 118.120. Idaho Construction of Kimberly is the contractor for the $21 million project, which is scheduled for completion by Fall 2006.

I-15, Breakaway Signs, Idaho 33 interchange to Montana border Work begins this week on replacing signs along the interstate (north- and southbound) from Roberts to the Montana border. The new signs break away when hit by vehicles and are designed to reduce injury and property damage in case of an accident. G.V. Construction of Garden Valley is the contractor for the $357,300 project. Motorists are advised to use caution in work zones.

U.S. 20, Hitt and St. Leon Interchanges Telford, Hitt and St. Leon roads will be closed this week where they intersect U.S. 20 north of Idaho Falls. Access from county roads into businesses will remain open, but alternate routes onto the county roads will be necessary. Traffic will be routed onto the northbound lanes of U.S. 20 and will remain two-way, two-lane throughout the summer. The contractor will begin pouring the decks of the new interchanges will be poured and the overpasses completed by early summer so traffic can be routed onto the new section of highway while the ramps and connecting roads are built.. Western Construction of Boise is the contractor for the $19 million project, which is scheduled for completion by this fall.

U.S. 20, Sugar City to Twin Groves - The concrete highway is being ground and cracks in the road surface smoothed, resulting in a better driving surface for motorists. The project extends from south of St. Anthony (milepost 342) to Twin Groves northeast of St. Anthony (milepost 249). The speed limit is 45 mph during working hours.. Diversified Concrete Cutting of Sparks, Nev.., is the contractor for the $505,500 project.

U.S. 20, South of Ashton Construction began Monday on a $1.8 million pavement rehabilitation project on U.S. 20 between milepost 353 and 360 south of Ashton. H-K Contractors of Idaho Falls iswill repair, overlay and seal coat the contractor on the Cement Recycled Asphalt Base Stabilization (CRABS) project. highway. Traffic will be one-lane, one way and motorists will be guided through the work zone by flaggers and pilot cars.. The speed limit is 45 mph.

Idaho 33, Canyon Creek Bridge Work on the bridge is suspendedshut down until late June or early July, when delivery of the steel girders is expected.

Work began in December, and new piers for the structure werehave been constructed.poured. Sletten Construction of Great Falls, Mont. will begin setting the steel girders for the new bridge once fabrication is complete and the beams have been delivered. ., has started building the steel support structures for the new bridge north of the existing bridge. The $4.3 million project is scheduled for completion by fall. The speed limit is 45 mph. Traffic will be routed over the old bridge throughout construction.

U.S. 93, North Fork Bridge to Gibbonsville Construction will be under way by mid-week on an 11-mile stretch of U.S. 93 from milepost 326 to 337. The work zone speed limit is 55 mph. Flaggers and pilot cars will direct traffic. Delays of up to 15 minutes can be expected. Western Construction of Boise is the contractor for the $1.9 million project.
