I-84 Interchange ramp closures planned for west and south Jerome Interchanges starting Wednesday
SHOSHONE - Access to the Interstate 84 eastbound on- and off-ramps at the west Jerome Interchange (milepost 165) will be closed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday (June 20) through Friday (June 22) for reconstruction and paving, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Westbound on- and off-ramps at the west Jerome Interchange at milepost 165 will be closed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Monday (June 25) through Wednesday (June 27) for reconstruction and paving.
Eastbound on- and off-ramps at the south Jerome Interchange at milepost 168 will be closed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Wednesday (June 27) through Saturday (June 30) for reconstruction and paving.
I-84 will be reduced from four lanes to two, with one lane open in each direction during the project.
Vehicles are limited to a maximum width of 14 feet through the construction zone. The speed limit will be reduced to 65 mph. Delays of 10-15 minutes can be expected. The Jerome Rest Area will be closed during this phase of construction.
Work on the eastbound lanes is expected to be complete by July.
The project's next stage will rehabilitate westbound I-84 from Exit 168 (South Jerome Interchange) to the U.S. 93 Junction (milepost 167-172). Work will be performed in July and August with similar lane and vehicle width restrictions.
This section of interstate is deteriorated and cracked. The $9.7 million rehabilitation project, scheduled to be complete by September, will create a safer, smoother surface. Western Construction of Boise is the project contractor.
Motorists are reminded to slow down in highway construction zones. Rear-end collisions account for most work zone crashes. Following too closely, inattentive driving, failing to yield the right of way and improper lane changes also contribute to accidents in work zones.
