Public invited to view alternatives for new Ten Mile Interchange at June 28 meeting
BOISE - The public can view and comment on three recommended designs for the new I-84 Ten Mile Interchange at an open house on Thursday, June 28 in Meridian, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

The meeting will run from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Central Valley Baptist Church, 600 N. Ten Mile Rd. in Meridian.  Attendees are invited to drop in at any time; no formal presentation will be made.

Display stations will show how the new interchange could connect to Ten Mile and Overland Roads and will include summaries of environmental and engineering studies. The studies helped ITD decide which interchange designs to recommend for further study.

Six design concepts were presented at a public meeting in August 2005. Two of the six designs were advanced for further study. During an independent engineering study earlier this month, a third design variation was recommended for further study. Comments from this meeting will help ITD narrow these three alternatives to one.

A hearing in Spring 2008 will present the recommended alternative for public testimony.

The Ten Mile Interchange will relieve congestion at the Eagle and Meridian Road interchanges and provide local access to I-84. It is part of the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses funding from Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to construct needed highway improvements throughout the state.

The Idaho Legislature has approved GARVEE bond funding to complete environmental analysis and design the Ten Mile Interchange, and begin right-of-way acquisition. Additional funding is needed to complete acquisition and construct the project. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2009.

More information about the Ten Mile Interchange project is available at www.itd.idaho.gov by selecting Get Involved, Southwest Idaho and Ten Mile Interchange.
