New traffic signal, turn lanes open this week for I-84 Eagle Road westbound off-ramp
BOISE - Motorists can expect to see two new turn lanes and a new traffic light this weekend at the Eagle Road westbound off-ramp, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.
The new ramp lanes will open Friday (June 29), giving motorists dual left and dual right turn lanes for turning south and north onto Eagle Road. A traffic light for the two northbound ramp lanes will be activated Wednesday night (June 27).
The new light will allow traffic to turn north onto Eagle Road without having to merge with northbound traffic traveling through the intersection.
The final phase of the off-ramp expansion will begin the evening of July 6 and will require closing the shoulder and outside lane of westbound I-84 while crews lengthen the off-ramp 1,600 feet.
The closure will extend from just west of the Cloverdale Overpass to the Eagle Road Interchange. ITD encourages commuters to plan extra time when traveling in the project area or consider an alternate route during this time. The project, originally scheduled for completion in October, is ahead of schedule and expected to be complete in late August.
The I-84 Eagle Road westbound off-ramp project is designed to reduce traffic backups on the interstate, and improve traffic flow at the ramp's intersection with Eagle Road. It is the first construction project in the Treasure Valley to use funding from Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds, which allow Idaho to construct needed highway improvements in less time than through traditional funding methods.
WF Construction of Meridian is the contractor for the $2.4 million project.
