Construction on Idaho 87 east of Henrys Lake to start Tuesday (June 26)

RIGBY - A resurfacing project on Idaho 87 east of Henrys Lake will begin Tuesday (June 26), the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

Crews will resurface 9 miles of the highway from the U.S. 20 junction east of Henrys Lake to the Montana state line (milepost 0 to 9.15).

During construction, motorists can expect 15- to 20-minute delays. Travel will be reduced to one lane, with flaggers directing northbound and southbound traffic through the work zone. The speed limit in work areas may be reduced to 45 mph.

Access to businesses and residences along the stretch of Idaho 87 will be maintained, and intersecting roads will remain open.

Work will take place on weekdays between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. The project is scheduled to be finished by Aug. 1. ITD awarded H-K Contractors Inc. the $1.7 million contract on Feb. 12. The transportation department will administer the project using state funds.

The resurfaced highway will offer a smoother ride for motorists.

Drivers should anticipate unusual driving conditions, such as merging traffic, construction vehicles, flaggers, pilot cars and uneven surfaces. The Idaho State Police reminds motorists that moving violations in work zones are fined at double the rate of violations elsewhere. Motorists are asked to drive with care.
