Eastbound I-84 to be restricted this week in Caldwell Franklin Interchange project area
BOISE - One lane of eastbound I-84 will be closed this week while crews reconstruct the permanent eastbound on-ramp for the Franklin Interchange, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

The right lane closed today (June 26) and is expected to reopen July 1. Crews will work aggressive day and night shifts to complete the work, which requires excavating pavement near the shoulder of the right lane. The short-term lane closure will allow the work to be completed faster and minimize the amount of time that traffic is exposed to the excavated area.

The closure will be coordinated with the I-84 Linden Road Overpass work, which also requires restrictions on one lane of eastbound I-84.

The Franklin Interchange project will lengthen and widen all four interchange ramps at their intersection with Franklin Road. The project includes building a new overpass with four through lanes and dual left turn lanes in each direction.

The project also will widen Franklin Road from two to five lanes on both sides of the reconstructed interchange. The improved road will have curb, gutter, sidewalk, bicycle lanes and shoulder.

The project is scheduled to be finished in the fall of 2008.
