I-84 open to normal traffic for July 4 holiday
TWIN FALLS - Eastbound traffic on Interstate 84 between Jerome and Twin Falls will return to eastbound lanes beginning July 2 and traffic will remain in separate lanes throughout the holiday week, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Traffic will remain confined to one lane in each direction in preparation for median work to begin after the holiday.
Construction crews are completing the final layer of roadway on the eastbound lanes and will be finishing ramp work at the two Jerome exits for the remainder of this week. Crews will be off during the holiday and will return to work on July 9.
Road restrictions include a maximum width of 14 feet through the construction zone. The speed limit will continue to be reduced to 65 mph. Delays of 10-15 minutes can be expected. The Jerome Rest Area will also remain closed during this phase of construction.
This section of interstate is deteriorated and cracked. The $9.7 million rehabilitation project, scheduled to be completed by September, will create a safer, smoother surface. Western Construction of Boise is the project contractor.
Motorists are reminded to slow down in highway construction zones. Rear-end collisions account for most work zone crashes. Following too closely, inattentive driving, failing to yield the right of way and improper lane changes also contribute to accidents in work zones.
