REMINDER: MEDIA ADVISORY - ITD hosts media event TODAY (Oct. 19) to kick off National Move Over Awareness week and Winter Safety

REMINDER MEDIA EVENT - TODAY

ST. ANTHONY - National Move Over Awareness week is held to raise awareness to the need for motorists to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles on the side of the roadways. With slick winter driving conditions rapidly approaching, the local Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) office is hosting a media event TODAY (Oct. 19) to encourage safe driving around highway vehicles, including snow plows.

Event details are listed below:

Event Information:

When: Today, October 19, 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Where: 470 N 2300 E, St. Anthony, ID 83445

ITD will have a highway maintenance snow plow driver, a tow truck company employee and an Idaho State Police trooper available to talk to reporters about the best way to stay safe when encountering highway response vehicles and snow plows.

Ride-along opportunities will be available for the media at this event.

“Vehicles pass by ITD workers, ISP troopers and tow truck drivers every day on state highways or the interstate at 60-80 mph or more. The sudden gush of air from the passing motorist or the rocking of the ITD vehicle as a semi passes by is a sober reminder that death or serious injury may only be feet away,” saids ITD Emergency Planner Neal Muphy.

Each year, the transportation department organizes a winter safety campaign that offers a variety of information and tips on being prepared for winter conditions. The campaign,“Idaho Ready,” will be launched later this fall. Additional information can be found at: https://itd.idaho.gov/road-mtce/.
