Work set to begin Monday on Interstate 90 resurfacing project
COEUR d'ALENE - Approximately 15 miles of Interstate 90, from the Washington state line through Coeur d'Alene, will be resurfaced beginning Monday (July 16), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. More than 40,000 vehicles per day pass through the project area.

Contractor's crews will grind the top portion of the existing pavement and replace it with new pavement. In addition to the new pavement, bridge decks will be repaired and remote sensor equipment will be replaced. The entire length of the project will be re-striped using Durastripe, a highly reflective, long-lasting polymer. It is more durable than water-based paint normally used for striping pavement surfaces.

Public convenience is a major factor in  planning interstate construction projects. Work on the project will take place from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Mondays through Saturdays, to minimize impacts on motorists.

The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph. Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the project area in the direction crews are working. Two lanes will remain open during non-construction hours. Access to each on- and off-ramp also will be maintained. Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling through the work zone.

Because of the mobile nature of the project, the noise impact on adjacent property owners should not exceed one night at any specific location.

The contractor for this $6 million project is Poe Asphalt and Paving of Post Falls. The project is expected to be completed by Nov. 1.
