Overnight lane restrictions on State Highway 55 in Nampa this week

NAMPA - The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is designing improvements to the Interstate 84 Karcher Interchange in Nampa. As part of the design process, this week crews will conduct survey work on State Highway 55 (W. Karcher Road) between the Karcher Interchange and Middleton Road. Temporary lane closures are scheduled overnight from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Tuesday, Mar. 1. Survey work is expected to finish by Friday, Mar. 4.

Drivers are urged to slow down in the work zone, and watch for flaggers and signage directing traffic.

The Karcher Interchange project will address traffic flow and safety at the interchange. Proposed improvements include:

  • Re-configuring westbound and eastbound off-ramps to improve safety and traffic flow.
  • Expanding the interchange bridge to provide a dedicated lane for the westbound off-ramp traffic to enter.
  • Adding a westbound lane on SH-55 between Caldwell Boulevard and Sundance Road.
  • Repaving roadway surfaces throughout the project.
  • Adjustments to signal pole locations at ramp intersections, Caldwell Boulevard, and Cassia Street to accommodate SH-55 pavement widening.
  • Installing a pedestrian flashing beacon at the eastbound on-ramp.
  • Widening some sidewalks within project limits.

This project design is funded with Transportation Expansion and Congestion Mitigation (TECM) funds as part of Governor Little’s Leading Idaho initiative. TECM allows ITD to advance large projects within corridors that will enhance safety, mobility, and Idaho’s economy. The I-84 corridor is one of 13 approved TECM corridors in the state.
