ITD names 16-year political veteran Colby Cameron as new Governmental Affairs Manager

BOISE - Colby Cameron, who has spent the last several years with Gov. Little’s Division of Financial Management as Bureau Chief for Regulatory and Legislative Affairs, and has a diverse background in political policy, will become the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) new Governmental Affairs Manager on Monday, March 21. Cameron has 16 years of professional experience in Idaho's public-policy process.

He replaces Mollie McCarty, who recently became the department’s Chief External Affairs Officer after 13 years as ITD’s Governmental Affairs Manager.

“Colby has diverse experience in both the public and private sectors, with a strong understanding of Idaho’s transportation challenges,” said McCarty. “In addition, his reputation for working collaboratively with various stakeholders will be a great asset in the department’s ongoing efforts to build strong partnerships that advance our mission.”

In his previous role, Cameron managed the Executive Agency legislation process for all of Idaho’s state agencies from the idea phase through committee introduction, and helped develop general legislative strategy.

Cameron was raised on a farm in Rupert, Idaho before studying at Idaho State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. He later earned a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Boise State University.

Cameron said the job is especially exciting because of the unprecedented opportunity ahead:

“There is an immense current opportunity to make once-in-a-lifetime investments in Idaho's infrastructure through enhanced State and Federal funding. What an exciting time to work at ITD, and for the people of Idaho, in helping to achieve the best outcome from enhanced investments.”

“I look forward to working with the Governor's Office, ever-changing legislative membership and Idaho's stakeholders in the public-policy process,” he added. “It will be a rewarding challenge to be an informational resource and help represent ITD as future chapters in Idaho Transportation Policy book are written.”
