Community and stakeholder advocate John Tomlinson named new ITD Communication Manager

BOISE - Fourteen-year ITD veteran John Tomlinson will become the department’s new Communication Manager on Monday,  April 4. Tomlinson most recently served as the department’s Office of Highway Safety Manager, where he championed ITD’s efforts to improve safety for Idaho’s transportation system users for the last six years.

The new position marks a return for Tomlinson to his earlier career endeavors. After earning his degree in Communications with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism from Brigham Young University, Tomlinson performed various roles in broadcast media.

“John will be a great addition to the ITD Communication team,” said Chief External Affairs Officer Mollie McCarty. “He is a passionate advocate for public and employee safety, and with his experience working with diverse stakeholder groups, his impact will be felt immediately. John brings so many great things to the table, not the least of which are enthusiasm and a sense for the needs of everyday citizens.”

Tomlinson replaces Vince Trimboli, who now leads the department’s communication for the Idaho Transportation Board and the transportation portion of Governor Brad Little’s "Leading Idaho" Initiative.

Tomlinson said he’s very excited to be joining the communication team at such a pivotal time.

“It is our mission to work closely with Idaho’s citizens and affected stakeholders to ensure these resources are utilized to improve safety, mobility and economic opportunity for all users of the state’s transportation system. I cannot wait to be part of this amazing team and rise to the exciting challenges ahead.”
